Alberto-Culver’s Sales Jump 16% in Second Quarter

Alberto-Culver Co. Inc., Melrose Park, IL, maker of Alberto V05 shampoo and operator of the Sally Beauty’s Supply chain, posted higher quarterly profit, driven by strength in its consumer packaged goods business, executives said.

The company, which also owns the St. Ives brand, reported net income of $40.6 million, for the fiscal second quarter ended March 31, compared with $37.9 million a year earlier. Sales rose 15.9% to $819 million. “Our consumer products and professional beauty supply distribution businesses both contributed to the robust second quarter,” said Alberto-Culver chief executive Howard Bernick.
